Golf Impact Screen GS1075 - Chapter 2: The Engineering of 32-Strap Suspension

Morelux Engineering Log: Vol. VIII

The Death of Grommets: Why 32 Reinforced Straps are a Structural Necessity

In structural engineering, the weakest point of any fabric system is the point of attachment.

For years, the industry standard for impact screens has been the metal grommet. While cheap to manufacture, grommets represent a fundamental design flaw: Stress Concentration. At Morelux, we chose to abolish metal hardware in the GS1075, replacing it with a specialized 32-strap suspension system.

1. Point Load vs. Linear Distribution

When a ball strikes a screen, the kinetic energy radiates outward. In a traditional screen, this energy travels until it hits a metal grommet.

  • The Grommet Failure: Because the grommet is a rigid "point," it creates an extreme stress riser. The fabric is forced to fight against the metal, leading to the inevitable "Grommet Tear-Out" that plagues 90% of budget screens.
  • The Morelux Strap Solution: Our 32 reinforced nylon straps function as Linear Load Distributers. By sewing the attachment points deep into the reinforced webbing, we increase the surface area of the tension point by 800%.

2. Mechanical Comparison: Straps vs. Grommets

Feature Standard Grommets Morelux 32-Strap
Force Distribution Single Point (High Stress) Linear Band (Low Stress)
Screen Flatness Scaloped / Uneven Flat / Edge-to-Edge Tension
Metal Fatigue Risk High (Cracks/Sharp Edges) Zero (All-Fabric System)

3. Eliminating the "Ricochet Risk"

The most dangerous moment in a simulator is a shank hitting a metal grommet. A ball striking metal at 150 MPH can result in a lethal ricochet or a shattered ball.

"By removing metal from the impact zone, we’ve created a fail-safe environment. If you hit the edge of a Morelux GS1075, the nylon straps absorb and dampen the blow rather than reflecting it back at the player."

4. Visual Precision: The Flat-Panel Effect

Because we use 32 individual tension points, you can achieve a level of flatness that mimics a high-end LED screen. Traditional bungee-and-grommet setups create "scalloping" (waves at the edges). With GS1075, the tension is uniform, ensuring your projector’s image remains undistorted from corner to corner.
